Welcome to the JHIA Africa Thesis Bank

The JHIA's Africa Thesis Bank accepts old and new masters and doctoral dissertations from anywhere in the world insofar as they touch on the histories, cultures and religions of Africa and its adjacent islands. In some limited and exceptional cases undergraduate long essays are also accepted. The bank aims to preserve in Africa what has been researched about Africa. It also enables scholars to easily identify areas that have been researched on by others. Depending on the conditions set by those who freely deposit their works in the bank, other researchers may also access the dissertations in different formats.

Relevant dissertations that have already been accepted by recognized institutions may be deposited in the Africa Thesis Bank preferably by their authors, but also by anyone else who is authorized to do so. We request anyone depositing a dissertation to fill the JHIA Acquisition Form; either on paper or online. If on paper, we request that the form be signed, then sent to us by post or as a scanned text via email. On the same form, the donor may specify reasonable conditions under which their material will be preserved by JHIA and accessed by other researchers. The dissertation can then be sent to us as a printed copy by post or as an attachment via email. Alternatively, after the acquisition form has been completed, the donor can also upload the dissertation directly to our system. Once we have received all the details, we shall process the information and the dissertation will appear on the JHIA Catalog.
