Abstract
The issue of human suffering is and will remain one of the greatest challenges of humanity; "it is a universal theme that accompanies man at every point on earth: in a certain sense it co-exists with him in the world, and thus demands to be constantly reconsidered."For human beings to go beyond it and to pin it down is not an easy task since there is no doubt that it is "incredibly complicated and its management at least equally SO". With regard to the present-day challenges in Africa, suffering can be perceived in its multifaceted aspects such as poverty and war, with consequences such as displaced people, the rape of innocent women, and killing of many innocent people. However, for this thesis, I take as my starting point and keen concern the scourge of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
