Abstract

The study as designed to examine the factors influencing motivational level of teachers at secondary school level in Kisasi district. The purpose of the study is to investigate the influence of the Board of management governance practices has on teacher motivation in public secondary schools in Kisasi District, Kitui County. The study aimed at determining the extent to which provision of incentives by the board of management influence teachers motivation, it was also evaluating the extent to which writing letters of recommendation for promotion by the board of management influences teacher motivation and the extent to which recognition of teachers by the Board of management influences teacher motivation. The study used descriptive research design. A questionnaire method was used to collect data from teachers and B.O.M s. SPSS was used to analyze data and represented using simple descriptive tables. The study established that incentive was the best way to motivate teachers. This was mentioned by 45% of the respondents while recommendation by BOM was mentioned by 30% of the respondents. Recognition was only suggested by 25% of the respondents. This findings therefore shows if the teachers are offered incentives, they are likely to deliver very well enhancing the performance of the school. This study thus recommends that teachers are supposed to be given incentives at least in termly basis.
