Abstract
The history of Bukoba for the last two decades has been marked by an experience of living near the hands of death. The Iddi Amin's (President of Uganda from 1971 - 1979) Ugandan invasion in 1978, HIV/Aids pandemic from the 1980s todate, but more and above all, the fatal capsization of MV Bukoba in 1996 which left almost 1,000 lives drowned in Lake Victoria (most of them being Bahaya), are still very fresh wounds in the minds of the Bahaya.
