Abstract

Information Technology has become increasingly important in every aspect of an organization It is now evident that every part of the world is using it. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology which is charged with overseeing curriculum development and implementation has noted the significance of Information Technology. Consequently, computer studies, as an examinable subject was introduced some ten years ago in Kenyan secondary schools. However, it is worth noting that Information Technology has not quite taken off in secondary schools. It is with this in mind that the researcher was compelled to prepare to investigate the factors that affect introduction of Information Technology in secondary schools in Kenya and Kericho District in particular. The purpose of the study was to find out why schools have not risen to the occasion as far as use and adoptionof computer technology is concerned. A quick comparison of tasks performed manually and electronically shows that the later are quicker and more efficient. However, against this background of great advancement, the secondary schools which are the foundation of human resources development have still not done much about introducing and using computers. Objectives The study will definitely benefit all the stakeholders in human resources development (HRD) and other academicians. The researcher used questionnaires, interviews, journals, books as well as searching in the website in a bid to address all the research questions. Kericho District has a population of seventy schools and a sample of 80% was preferred. The investigation established that although information technology had been introduced in some Secondary school, it is use in teaching and administrative tasks were very minimal.The study Identified various factors affecting the introduction of information technology and made recommendations on how to overcome those challenges.
