Abstract
This paper is a survey of the first fifteen years of higher education in Ethiopia. There has been no comprehensive study yet published on this subject. Such a study can be of some value in the area of higher education in Africa. To be sure studies are still very limited in number and scope. The purpose of the author is also to identify some of the problems, issues, and prospects which will face those who will be responsible for the future of education in Ethiopia. The author has had the advantage of twelve years of educational experience in Ethiopia, the last seven at University College in Addis Ababa.
