Abstract

This thesis presents a study on responsible parenthood among the Hehe people today in relation to the Encyclical Humanae Vitae. At present Iringa Diocese makes me feel obliged to help find out solutions to the prevailing problems of responsible parenthood. We speak about parenthood because it is through it that the responsibilities of parents in society are manifested. Many values are to be considered in responsible parenthood. In fact, the child's intellectual ability, social and moral demands, physical and spiritual growth are indispensable values in the training of children. The aim of such values is to make children ready to settle on their own course o f life in the society. With this work we want to come up with new vision and pastoral recomenendations which can safeguard the good intention of the Encyclical among the Hehe society. At the same time we want to answer the problem of child- spacing among the Hehe in a manner that family planning and population control programmes do not violate the dignity of human person.
