Abstract

This study attempts to contribute to the ongoing conversation concerning ecological issues and their theological significance. The conversation involves voices from different parts of the world and different religious perspectives. However, each voice represents an opportunity for the others to listen and learn new ways of relating to the created world and, in that context, to learn new ways of relating to one another in the human community. This study brings the contribution of an African voice to the conversation. It draws from the living tradition of the Roman Catholic Church and from the cultural resources of Africa, a continent that thirsts for peace, justice and reconciliation. The situation of Africa reveals much of what is happening in the larger world. What pertains to peace, justice, and reconciliation in Africa becomes relevant to the larger world in its struggles to prevent, and to stop violent conflicts in order to secure and promote a peace based on right relationships with the humans and other created realities, both animate and inanimate.
