Abstract

The main objective of the study was to asses the effects of demographic, socioeconomic and institutional factors on the physical conservation practices of the farmers in Arbaminch zuriya woreda. A total of 422 sample households were randomly selected from selected sample kebeles for the household survey through which qualitative and quantitative data were gathered. Bivariet (chi-square test) and multivariate (binary logistic) methods of data analyses were applied. The results of the binary logistic model indicate that the physical conservation practice is significantly associated with age, sex, literacy statues, land holding size, livestock owned, extension services, land tenure security, and off farm income of the household. Secure rights on the land should be granted to the farmers, besides awareness creation on the existing rural land administrative policy concepts to avoid miss-understandings. The expansion of adult education programs should be also seriously considered.
