Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the practices and challenges of educational leadership on the One –to- Five Teachers Teamwork in the Secondary Schools of West Shoa Zone. To this end, descriptive study, with both quantitative and qualitative, research method was employed. In this study, 57 school administrators and 150 teachers, and a total of 207 respondents took part from 12 sample government secondary schools. The teachers were selected by the combination of the proportional stratified sampling techniques and simple random sampling techniques. School leaders were selected by purposive sampling technique. Close and open ended questions, document analysis, interview guides were developed and fully utilized as the main data gathering instruments. Data were analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean value and standard deviation. The results of this study include, low safe environment where members of one-to-five teachers’ teamwork can openly discuss. The study also shows that the school leadership didn’t clarifies the team members’ roles for all members in detail. Besides the study also indicates that the school leadership involves low in providing guidance to the teachers’ one – to- five team work members to work cooperatively. Furthermore, the study appears to show that school leadership didn’t offer strategies for setting teachers’ one-to-five team goals as expected. To alleviate the above, it was recommended that there should be conducive and attractive environment where to discuss in team and share experience with colleagues. Besides, school leaders should clarify each member’s roles and responsibilities. Furthermore, the school leadership as well as the concerned governmental body should develop strategies, and follow and guide the teachers’ one-to-five teamwork attentively and continuously. And finally forward further study on the issue was recommended.
