Abstract

The existing manual vehicle identification system is slow, inaccurate and provides little data about a vehicle. In this thesis work, fast, accurate and automatic way of vehicle identification system is proposed. The work focuses on producing a prototype system in which each vehicle is to be tagged with unique electronic Identification (ID). Radio frequency identification (RFID) reader is used to extract the ID in the electronic plate of the vehicle. Contactless, read only integrated circuit identification device, EM4102 has been used to emulate the electronic plate of a vehicle while a reader built using the EM4095 (a CMOS integrated transceiver circuit) is used as RFID reader. Experimental investigation was performed on the developed radio frequency identification system in the laboratory to check for the expected result. The experimental result demonstrates that the reader reads the ID of the card at close proximity confirming the functionality of the developed system within the read range of the used frequency. Finally, a clear set of changes that could upgrade the prototype to a working system has been presented.
