Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to undertake an assessment of training and development offered by woreda six administrations of Kirkos sub-city and forward possible recommendations. A descriptive survey design was employed. The study was conducted on three groups of respondents’ trainers, trainees and leaders. A total of 146 trainees, 17 trainers and 12 leaders were taken using census sampling technique as an actual source of information because to generalize all woreda with sub-city. Questionnaire, interview and document analysis were used to collect the necessary information. Results obtained were analyzed by using percentage, frequency and mean, standard deviation and t-test. The results of this study indicated that the training offered by woreda did not convert to practice, the training have general objective but lack specific objective. The training environment was so good but the selection of trainees and trainers did not base itself on clear criteria. The training coordination was found to be successful Even though continuous need assessment was done it was not based on the performance evaluation. The recommendations made for addressing issues are including in the study of training need assessment (TNA), setting specific training objectives involving stakeholders in training content selection and setting objective, designing clear selection criteria for trainees and trainers, evaluating training and arrangements on training constraints.
