Abstract

The purpose of this study was to assess Determinants of teachers’ work motivation in Akaki Kality sub city 0f Addis Ababa in selectedsecondaryschools.Descriptive survey design was employed in this study. A total of 207 teachers were participated in the study by using availability sampling. In addition to teachers’participants6 principals, 6 parents and 3 students’ presidents were interviewed by using purposive sampling method. The study employed questionnaire and interview in order to collect data from participants of the study. Then, the collected data were analyzed using percentages, mean and standard deviation. In line with this, the interview analysis fleshed by qualitative discussion. The findings of the study indicated that teachers’ motivation was decreased due to poor performance in line with principal leadership behavior, teachers’ participation in decision making, Supervision, Reward, Interpersonal relationships, Parents involvement, Economic factor and teachers job satisfaction. In the light of these facts, the researcher suggested that the Akaki Kality Sub City in collaboration with Addis Ababa city bureau of Education design and implement continuous training for both teachers and principals on team leadership to alleviate non participatory leadership, constructive in creating motivation in accordance with designing advanced supervision programs, subsidizing teachers’ economical failure, and making open reward giving for best teachers, encourage teachers to participate in decision making.
