Objective: The main objective of the study was to assess the sexual behaviour and Barriers to condom use among Federal government employees in Addis Ababa Methods: a cross sectional quantitative survey was conducted in Federal government employees from January-Febrary-2006 in Addis Ababa. Data were collected using self administered questionnaire. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess determinants of multiple sexual partners, past condom use and intention to use condom. Result: a total of 710 federal employees participated in the study. Over all 80% were sexually active in the last twelve month of which 13.2% of the respondents had multiple sexual partners. Being single, khat chewing and field work were significantly associated with multiple sexual partners. Condom use was found to be 47.3%. More men than women reported to use condom in the past. Marital status, educational status, type of sexual partner, and substance use found to determine past condom use. The main reason given for not using condom was trusting partner. Perceived susceptibility to HIV was the most powerful predictor of intention to use condom.Recommendation: reducing risky sexual behavior (not using condom, having multiple sexual partners) among federal government employees requires an all embracing efforts and great deal of attention by anti HIVAIDS task forces/committees in each organization, the organizations and the Federal government.
