Abstract

Background: Job satisfaction refers to a person‟s feeling of gratification on the job, which acts as a motivator to work. Health workers are the most important resource for health systems. Thus, health workers job satisfaction is one of the key parameters that influence productivity as well as quality of health service delivery. Objective: To identify current level and factors associated with job satisfaction among governmental health workers of Sebeta Hawas Woreda, Oromia Region, 2016/17. Methods: Quantitative cross-sectional study design was conducted in Sebeta Hawas Woreda government health workers. A simple random sampling method was used to select study participants. Data was collected by using a self-administered structured questionnaire adopted from Mennosota Satisfaction Questionnaire 1977 version. The collected data were coded, entered and analyzed using SPSS version 21 and the data was summared using descriptive statistics of frequency and percentage. Bivariate and multivariate analysis were done to identify factors associated with health workers of job satisfaction and the strength of association was measured by 95% CI and P- value of 0.05 as cut off point. Result: A total of 175 health workers were participated in the study, among them 73 (41.7%) were males and 102 (58.3%) were females. The level of job satisfaction with socio-demographic, working environment and organizational variables was measured independently and finally, the over all job satisfaction of health workers was measured by computing these three main factors together and categoring in to satisfied and dissatisfied. Hence, 64 (36.6%) participants were satisfied and 111(63.4%) were dissatisfied with sociodemographic variables, 65(37.1%) were satisfied and 110(62.9%) were dissatisfied with working environment variables and 71(40.6%) were satisfied and 104(59.4%) were dissatisfied with organizational variables, that resulted 68(38.9%) study participants were satisfied and 107(61.1%) were not satisfied with their current job. Among socio- demographic characteristics variables age, marital status, and service years of respondent were found to be significantly associated with overall job satisfaction at P-value (0.017, 0.02 and 0.035) and AOR {[AOR=1.497; 95% CI (1.171,13.110)], [AOR= 2.249; 95% CI (1.135, 4.456)] and [[AOR=0.199; 95% CI (0.044,0.893)} respectively. Conclusion and recommendation: The majorities of Sebeta Hawas Woreda Health Workers were dissatisfied with their current job. So, policy makers and health service managers of the RHB, WorHO, Health facilities and Administrators at all levels have to pay special attention to improve Sebeta Hawas Woreda Health Workers on job satisfactions by creating regular supervision and provide professional feedback and strategy that can motivate health workers, prepare experience sharing program for younger, not married and more experienced.
