Abstract

Survival rate for most types of cancer have improved dramatically over the years. For patients who have cancer, the success of treatment with regimens, that are toxic to gonadal function, has made infertility an important problem. Sterility from these therapies may be temporary or permanent. The occurrence of this toxicity is related to a number of factors including the individual’s age at the time of treatment, type of therapeutic agent, radiation field, total dose, single versus multiple agents, and length of time since treatment. The Nairobi Cancer registry (2000-2002) reported 1511 adult males diagnosed with cancer over the 3 year period and 1799 adult females over the same period of time.
