With a simple thinking, pri ate schools are believed to have the better potentials in moving towards the above theories of learning. The main aim of this paper is to reports case study of elementary schools social studies teachers' applications of the constructivist teaching strategies . And secondly, it aimed at assessing affecting factors of the application of the constructivist teaching in social studies class. Data for the study was gathered through classroom observations pre and post observation interview, and questionnaire. The findings show that, both teachers were found practicing only some teaching strategies guided by the theories of constructivism. Concerning the affecting factors, the teachers related, the students related, the curriculum material or workbook related, and the schools related factors were identified. In some cases the teaching learning situations could be characterized as strong construction of knowledge and in some were not. Based on the findings it can be concluded that the schools and the teachers rather than developing and sustaining the concept of constructivist teaching strategies, instead developed a less unified understanding and applications of the strategies. But this doesn't imply for devaluating the steps taken so far by the teachers and the schools. Implications of the study concern ways of thinking about the common methodological problem teachers face when actually trying to apply the newly advocated teaching strategies. For successful' application of the constructivist approach to classroom teaching, not only what of the approach but also the how of it needs attention by strategies developers, schools, and teachers (implemcnters).
