Abstract

Vatican II urged on members of religious institutes, in their work of renewal, to return continually to the sources of all Christian life, such as Scripture and Tradition, and, for the good of the Church, to study and seek a genuine understanding of the original inspiration of their founders, so that they might preserve it faithfully when deciding on adaptation. As a result, this genuine understanding of their original spirit would help to adapt their religious life from alien elements to the changed situations of our times. For it is from both sources that they retain what is solid in the traditions of the past and also put themselves into the position for a solid adaption.
