Abstract

The major objective of this study was to examine the association between health locus of control (HLOC) and health seeking behavior (HSB) among employees in Gulele sub City, A.A. 214 sample of employees was selected from the target population using systematic random sampling. MHLOC scale and self –constructed questionnaire of HSB were used to collect the data. Descriptive and corelational survey research design was employed with both descriptive and inferential statistical methods to analyze the data. Descriptive statistic included Percentage, mean, SD, Pearson product-moment and Spearman rank order correlation. Under inferential statistics, T-test, One-way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis test were utilized. The findings of the study revealed that significant difference was found in internal HLOC scores for males, and females, that is, males’ internal HLOC orientation is higher than that of females. Whereas, non significant relationship was found between other socio-demographic variables (age, income level, educational level and marital status) with HLOC. In addition, weak and positive correlation was found between age and general HSB and significant difference was found among the respondents with three income level group on their general HSB, and insignificant relationship found between other socio-demographic variables and HSB. Positive and weak correlation was found between internal HLOC and general HSB and insignificant relationship for the other variables. The study concluded that except internal HLOC and sex, there was no significant relationship between socio demographic variables and HLOC. There was no significant relationship between socio-demographic variables and HSB except age and general HSB and income level and general HSB. Moreover, there is significant relationship between IHLC and general HSB. However, no significant relationship was found between HLOC orientation and recognition of illness symptoms, health care attendance and compliance with treatment. Finally, based on the findings of the study recommendations were suggested.
