Abstract

HIV/AIDS epidemic is one of the greatest challenges facing the present generation. The available information on HIV prevalence among female commercial sex workers in Addis Ababa were 17%-24%, which shows the rapid spreading in trend of infection. This study aimed at assessing HIV/AIDS related risk behaviors and condom use skill among female commercial sex workers at hotspot areas of the Arada Sub city. Across sectional study design was used. 418 subjects were selected using simple random sampling, snowball and convenient sampling technique. Data were obtained from the subjects using self -administered questionnaire and focus group discussion guide line. A descriptive analysis was done including spearman correlation analysis to see the association between condom use skills with the socio demographic variables. Based on the analysis female commercial sex workers condom use status were found encouraging, their HIV/AIDS related risk behaviors was found high and a positive association was obtained between condom use skill and grow up and service year as a commercial sex work. Based on the conclusion drawn from the analysis, awareness raising and behavioral changing education should be given on HIV/AIDS and condom use to females under risk of HIV infection sustainably, access to friendly counseling, testing and support system should be available to FCSWs so that they will know their HIV status and plan for their future and free and sustainable condom supply should be insured to FCSWs are taken as some forwarded recommendations.
