Data on parenting style, socio-economic status and depression level were obtained from self-reported questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, multiple and step-wise regression, and independent t-test. Then, the result of the statistical analysis obtained through descriptive statistic displayed that authoritative and authoritarian parenting styles are the dominant parenting practices among the study population. The correlation analysis demonstrated significant relationship between the four parenting styles and depression. It also indicated significant relationship between low socio-economic status and depression. The relationship between low socio-economic status and parenting styles were also found to be significant. The results of multiple and step-wise regression indicated that authoritarian and authoritative parenting styles as influential contributors to the variation in depression. The independent t-test also demonstrated significant difference between male and female adolescents regarding depression. It was concluded that parenting style and socio-economic status are significantly associated with adolescent depression problem. The parenting practices that parents use to guide their children are also strongly influenced by their socio-economical status. Regarding gender difference in depression, females are more depressed and exposed to depression than their male counterparts.
