Abstract

The research sought to examine the effect of literacy on access to, and utilization of agricultural information for household food security at Horo Guduru Wellega Horo Woreda in Ethiopia. Specifically the research attempted to attain the follwoing purposes: I) Determine the literacy status of farmers at Horo Guduru Wellega Horo Woreda II) Determine the household food security situation at Horo Guduru Wellega Horo Woreda III) Identify the agricultural information needs of farmers at Horo Guduru Wellega Zone Horo Woreda IV) Determine accessibility and utilization of agricultural information for household food security, and Find out the effect literacy has on access to and utilization of agricultural information. Random sampling procedures were used to select 110 respondents. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected from primary and secondary source. The quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS. Education levels among the sample respondents were low with above (60%)of respondents were illiterate . The farmer at Horo Guduru Wellega Horo Woreda information needs is limited by literacy.
