Abstract

Context: Malaria is a public health problem. In Africa malaria is a serious health and economic problem, affecting more than half of the continent’s population. The use of ITNS is one of the major components of the selective vector control strategy. The ultimate goal of this study is to analyze the socio- economic and demographic determinants of bed net use among households head in Bako Tibe Wereda. Methods: The study used mainly primary data generated through conducting household head survey, with structured questionnaire to collect the required information. In depth interview was also used to substantiate and crosscheck the information obtained from the structured questionnaire. The unit of analysis is household head. The sampling procedures followed a multistage sampling technique in which selected kebeles where divided into the manageable enumeration areas so that household listing would be made in order to identify the target pupation. The dependent variable (net use) is composed of categories of users and non-users of bed net. Some of the methods of analysis that were used in this study include un-variate, bi-variate and multivariate techniques. Results: The results show that 40.1 percent of respondents have bed net. The result of logistic analysis revealed that sex of the household heads has a significant relationship with bed net usage. Household size also shows inverse relationship with the use of mosquito net. Education level had a significant and positive relationship with use of bed net use. The wealth has also a direct relationship with use of bed net. Conclusion and recommendation: It is recommended that government and other concerned bodies design methods through which the most significant variables such as Wealth, education, household size and knowledge that highly determine the use of bed use will be brought to attention and thus the impact of malaria is recalled and bed users and coverage in crease in the farmers and society at large.
