Abstract
"The real challenge to Christian faith today comes from within i.e. from its own exigency of universality, from its own claim of having a truly 'catholic' character. Any Message directed to the whole of mankind today which takes a part for the whole or ignores the variety of peoples, cultures and religions, is bound to be discarded at the very outset. Either the Christian faith will accept this challenge or declare its particular allegiance to a single culture and thus, renounce its claim of being the carrier of a universally acceptable message, which does not destroy any positive value." (R. Panikkar. "Metatheology as Fundamental Theology", Concilium 6 (1969) 5:22) "Making sense is a game. a collective undertaking. While studying other cultures it is vital that anthropologists ask themselves what the rules of the anthropological game are and what the point of it is .... How do the rules of producing anthropological accounts limit what we may know of other types of experience? We must never forget how much culture there is buried in anthropological knowledge." (M. Crick, "Anthropology of Knowledge". Annual Review of Anthropology, 11(1982) :301-2)
