Abstract
The area of the study is Sudan with focus on the south. The purpose of the study is to examine the area extent to which the 2005 Sudanese Comprehensive Peace Agreement has been understood by the local population of southern Sudan. Since the independence of Sudan in 1956 there have been continuous conflict of different kind that created tensions, hatred, discrimination and agony in Sudan, in addition, southern and northern have had several negotiations and agreements but one of them has ever been implemented successfully. The main objectives of the study are to examine the motivation behind the 2005 Sudan. Comprehensive Peace Agreement, and to explore reasons to the continued conflict between the North arid south. Religion and Islamic policies have been discussed as the central foundation of conflict in Sudan that later turned to bitterness and racism. In this regard, the study attempts to analyse the understanding of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and its impact to the outcome of the referendum. Literature review shows that there is little understanding of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement by the local population of southern Sudan. In conclusion, the study has given some short, middle and long term recommendations and further task for research regarding the comprehensive Peace Agreement.
