Abstract
1. Divine Initiative and Human Success: The question of the interplay of exceptional human achievement and divine initiative in the Old Testament appears to find a response in the consideration of the re-working, interpretation and reorganizing of traditional material in the process of the composition of 2Sam 1-8. Hence one fundamental aspect of biblical exegesis is that it is a dynamic process. This dissertation will examine the redaction composition of 2Sam 1-8. David is presented in these chapters as blameless in his dealings, and is perfectly successful in all his undertakings. Yahweh delivers him wherever he goes and gives him victory in all his undertakings (2Sam 8,6b.14b). Yahweh is therefore with him (2Sam 7,3).
