Abstract

The major objective of the study is to explore psychosocial problems experienced by orphan children, under the Ethiopian Orthodox Church Child and Family Affairs Organization, Sebeta child center. For the present study 150 orphaned children and 4 orphan children’s care takers were selected through random sampling. A questionnaire with open ended and close ended items was distributed to all the participants. The quantitative data were analyzed using percentages, t-test, and Pearson correlation coefficient. In this study it was found t h at grade level was significantly and positively correlated with psychosocial problems whereas orphan grades level was significantly and negatively correlated with social and psychological problems. Gender and age were not significantly related with psychosocial problems. No significant difference in psychosocial problems was found between male and female respondents. Encouraging the orphan’s individuality and autonomy and enhancing their self-esteem may be effective strategies to reduce their social and psychological problems.
